This studyinvestigatedtheremarkablesynergeticeffectbetweentwo-dimensionalgrapheneoxide(GO)
and one-dimensionaloxidizedcarbonnanotubes(OMWCNTs)onpermeationandanti-foulingperfor-
mance ofpolyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)compositemembranes.StackingofindividualGOiseffectively
inhibited byintroducingOMWCNTs.LongandtortuousOMWCNTscanbridgeadjacentGOandinhibit
their aggregation,whichmakesthematerialsachievetheirhighestpotentialforimprovingtheanti-
fouling performanceofcompositemembranes.Ultraviolet–visible spectraandzetapotentialstudywell
demonstratedthatthedispersionofhybridmaterialsisbetterthanthatofeitherGOorOMWCNTs.The
morphology ofdifferentmembranesdemonstratedthatmodified membraneshavebiggerporedensity,
which undoubtedlyplayedapositiveroleinpermeation flux. ComparedwiththepristinePVDF(781), the
hydrophilicityofmembraneswiththeratioof1:9(GO/OMWCNTs)showedamarkedimprovement
(52.51) incontactangle.WithaGO/OMWCNTsratioof5:5,thepurewater flux isenhancedby251.73%
compared withpristinePVDFmembranes,whileimprovedby103.54%and85.68%forthePVDF/
OMWCNTsandPVDF/GOmembranes,respectively.Themembranefoulingmechanismwasstudiedby
resistance-in-series model,andresultsindicatedthatmembranestendedtobefouledbythecakelayer.
Additionally,anatomicforcemicroscope(AFM)analysiswithaBSA-immobilizedtipindicatedlow
adhesion forcewiththemodified membranes,whilethepristinePVDFmembranesexhibitedstrong
adhesion totheprobe,consistentwiththefoulingpropertiesofthemembranes.Thenewly-developed
modified membranes,especiallythePVDF/GO/OMWCNTsmembranes,demonstratedanimpressive
prospect fortheanti-irreversiblefoulingperformanceindeadend filtration experiments.Andthepure
water flux recoveryachieved98.28%formembraneswiththeratioof5:5(GO/OMWCNTs),which
contributing tothesynergisticeffectofthehybridsamples.Asaresult,theoptimumratioofGO/
OMWCNTsimmobilizingmembranesforultrafiltration membraneapplicationintermsofhighest
permeability andlowestfoulingwas5:5.Conspicuously,theeaseofsynthesisandtheexceptional
permeability andanti-foulingperformancerenderthatthelow-dimensionalcarbonnanomaterial
modification isanattractivewayofdesigningfutureultrafiltration membranesinbothconventional
fields andnewemergingareas.
